Your KYC (Know Your Customer) status indicates whether your KYC records are available and compliant with the requirements applicable to investors in the securities market.
KYC records are maintained by KYC Registration Agencies (KRAs). You can check your KYC status online using the official KRA websites listed below. SEBI requires KRAs to provide investors with a facility to check their KYC status and understand the applicable status and its implications.
Check Your KYC Status
You can check your KYC status through any of the following official KRA portals:
What Does Your KYC Status Mean?
KYC Validated
Your KYC information has been successfully validated by the KRA against the relevant official/source databases. A validated KYC record generally provides portability, meaning you do not normally have to repeat the KYC process when approaching another intermediary in the securities market.
No further KYC remediation is normally required.
KYC Registered
Your KYC record is registered with the KRA but may not have completed the additional validation requirements applicable to the record.
For certain investors, a fresh set of KYC documents may be required when investing with a new Mutual Fund or intermediary. You may also choose to complete re-KYC/validation to move towards KYC Validated status.
KYC On-Hold
Your KYC record has one or more details that could not be verified or requires further action.
This may be related to information such as:
- PAN
- Name
- Address
- Mobile number
- Email ID
- PAN–Aadhaar linkage/validation
- KYC documents
Further transactions may be restricted until the required information is successfully verified or the KYC issue is resolved.
KYC Rejected
The KYC record has not been accepted by the KRA because of an issue with the information or documents submitted.
The investor may need to correct the details and/or submit the required KYC documents again.
What Should I Do If My KYC Is Not Validated?
If your KYC status is KYC Registered, On-Hold or Rejected, don’t worry. The required action depends on the reason shown by the KRA.
You may need to:
- Validate your registered mobile number and email ID.
- Complete PAN–Aadhaar seeding/validation, where applicable.
- Update incorrect or missing KYC information.
- Submit the required KYC documents.
- Complete re-KYC using an accepted Officially Valid Document (OVD), where required.
For investors whose KYC attributes cannot be verified, SEBI’s framework provides for remediation before further transactions can continue.
